"For in the end, [Huxley] was trying to tell us what afflicted the people in Brave New World was not that they were laughing instead of thinking, but that they did not know what they were laughing about and why they had stopped thinking." --Neil Postman

Setbacks and Steps Forward- Postman

All around us there is technology, there seems to be no way to escape it, everywhere you look there is a screen distracting at least one person.. The problem about this generation is we are all into deep and have found an addiction to a SCREEN. In the nonfiction novel, Amusing Ourselves to Death, written by Neil Postman, the author argues about the setbacks the new generation receives because of the advancements in the entertainment industry. He specifically speaks about the decline in reading comprehension.
Although this novel, portrays this generation to be dull, I believe that we have learned to solve problems using deep analysis. In 2010, the Common Core standards were released, these standards were set forth to target critical thinking, problem solving, and to increase analytical studies. In doing so, students are still using their mind to expand their thoughts further. My point is, although the internet has created a lack for thinking, we have learned how to accommodate things to still provide students a way to think for their own selves.

Do you think the Common Core standards are insufficient for students? Do you believe we have reached an intellectual deterioration?
