Gun Control is a debate I came across and thought I had a deep connection with. My sister, Taylor, loves guns and she tells me everything about them. She just got back from a trip to shoot guns with her friend. She believes that only people who truly know about firearms should own one. I have learned so much about them from her. I have a friend who owns a gun training company, so guns are always around me. I think that if you are going to own a gun, you should know when and how to use it. Also, some people own way too many firearms which is unnecessary. Guns are not a something you collect for fun. They are for self-defense and nothing more than that. If you would like to go shoot guns, you can go to a gun range. One of my old friends loves to go to the range, and he also knew everything about guns. It made him happy which is good because he deserves to be happy.
What do you think about guns? Should people own so many? Should people get more lessons on guns before they can own one? How do you feel about guns all around you?

ReplyDeleteI believe that if you are a sane person with a good enough functioning body, who hasn't committed any crimes, you should be allowed to own a gun. However, I do think that there should be some restrictions. For example, you should only be allowed 7 guns max, and only handguns. The main argument people give for owning guns is to protect their home, and personally I don't think you need an automatic rifle or a sniper rifle to protect your home. You also should be required to take a written test, as well as a hands on test, like they do with cars.
There has been a lot of controversial arguments about the banning of guns. Keeping a gun at home is always a good method for emergencies and self defense but people should know when and how to use them. You don't want to accidentally shoot your drunk neighbor trying to open the door to your house at 3 AM because you think its a thief and he thinks he is just opening to door to his house. He meant no harm, just trying to find his way back into his bed (a random example of how things can go wrong with carrying a weapon).
DeleteSome people use guns for thrilling adrenaline and go to shoot ranges. People say it makes them feel in power and control but yet free at the same time.
Others use it for hunting which can cause endangerment of species if the rate of hunted animals is increasing. Its hard to side with the banning of guns because it's the person that kills, not the weapon. A gun can be laid out without hurting anyone until a person picks it up and aims at a human. A murder can find other ways to kill a person. It can be by strangling, cutting, intoxicating , or even drowning a person. If we are trying to ban objects that people are being killed with , then shouldn't we also ban cars? The ASIRT ( Association for Safe International Road Travel) say that "Nearly 1.3 million people die in road crashes each year, on average 3,287 deaths a day." There are many deaths caused by drunk driving or car accidents but we don't see anyone talking about "banning cars" now do we?
There should be schooling for owning and using a gun. Not just a few courses but weekly or monthly classes to keep in check with out owning a gun and trying to buy one.
I agree with you. There are some people who own fully automatic rifle or shotguns and claim that they were purchased to "protect their home" guns like that aren't necessary if a person was to break in to your home. The limit on guns seems like a good idea, but there people who collect guns. There are many people who have guns with the purpose being something other than to protect their home but to collect them or shoot them in legal areas, like a firing range. Shooting and collecting guns are hobbies that many people are interested in, and with a limit to how many guns you can own, I don't think it's fair to those who are genuinely interested in collecting a variety of firearms.
ReplyDeleteGuns are highly dangerous but it's used for multiple reasons. Think about it, people use guns for self-defense, yet others use them to hurt one another. If we were to own a gun, we should have a purpose for owning them, such as protecting ourselves or others. Guns are essentially good also. The army and marines use guns to fight for our country, which I believe is a really good purpose. I would agree with Lucas on owning guns. If people were genuinely interested they could own as many as they please. I would think that they aren't just leaving them anywhere. Most likely it would be in a secret hiding spot or a safe box.
ReplyDeleteAs a person who has a gun loving sibling, I understand how you feel. Constantly, my older brother talks to me about guns and gun accessories and which ones he would want to get somewhere in the future. Personally, I'm afraid of guns, and I think it's perfectly normal to be. Yet my brother insists that with proper training and discipline, the gun doesn't become a household threat unless you want it to be. As for the amount of guns you should own, I guess it's okay to own as many guns as you want. Although we see it as a potential hazard, gun enthusiasts see it as a hobby. They use their guns for hunting, sport shooting, and self-defense. I don't like guns personally, but that doesn't mean that we should demonize every person that does.
ReplyDeleteI believe guns need to be extremely regulated in America. Many of the mass shootings that have occurred were with legally owned guns. It is far too easy to access guns, meaning that mentally ill people with bad intentions can be in possession of them. Honestly, I personally see no use for guns. They are made for harm and killing. I don't those people who argue that they're fun and a good hobby. If quitting your hobby would save hundreds of lives, wouldn't you do so? With the large amount of school shootings just this past year, I no longer feel safe getting my education. My mom had a discussion with me about making a plan for each of my classrooms in the event of a school shooter. I'll never forget when we went to see a movie a few days after the Parkland shooting and my mom looked and me during the previews and asked my escape route, just to be sure I had one. It broke my heart that she felt so scared to just be seeing a movie. I no longer want to fear going to school, seeing a movie, going to a concert, etc.. I hope that gun owners will be empathetic, compassionate, and understanding when we finally regulate the background checks on guns.
