Online Bullies

Coming across another article that I found in the "Room For Debates" was titled "Dealing With Online Bullies Outside the Classroom." Something that we have been trying to stop for several years and still have had no progress. This mainly explains the issue with bullies online and outside of school. Which is bad enough when they are bullying at school. They have to continue to hurt students off campus. This is talking about whether or not school's should have the authority to handle this off campus. However, this is not just off campus, this is through texting and social media where people are being bullied.
A comment from Lilian Grae that stated, "Unless the Internet activity is being done on school time or in the classroom as an extracurricular activity, the school has no authority with what students outside of school." That's true that have no authority to handle this in any way because its not on their ground and they are not on duty. Yet Allison Agliata comments, "if a social conflict takes place off-campus, but the repercussions bleed into school interactions, the school still has a right and responsibility to take action to take action." I wonder how they would handle the situation off campus considering the fact that this is being addressed online.
Unless the victim is in serious danger and they have asked for help from adults, even the ones from school then they should help the student off campus. If it is just a minor issue online like a few insults that are hurtful, then the school shouldn't be involved because it's not major. It can be dealt with at school when it has been addressed. No one should be bullied at all whether its through social media or directly at their face. Bullying is an idea for people when they have nothing better to do in life because they are useless. People shouldn't care about what others say or think about them especially through social media because that's even more pathetic if its through the phone. They don't have the guts to insult you straight to your face. Is it necessary for school's to handle bullying off-campus? Should they take action?

  1. I feel like schools should do something about online bullying but at the same time what can they do. I doubt schools have access to students online activity. As bad as the situation is there is not much that the school could but preach against it.
