Listening to the podcast I picked up on the main idea that technology has put us in a zone comfort. We have grown on the idea that technology is a safe place, when really in reality it has done more harm than helpfulness. Over the past couple years we have witnessed major changes such as an increase in impatience. Now that we have all the answers at the touch of a finger we now tend to get frustrated when we can't get the answer right away. Technological advancement will only grow from here, but what are we working towards? We are always told that technology is advancing, but why?
In the podcast it states how we feel uneasy when it comes to not having our phones or technology in general. The connection is unlimited when in comes to our phones computer, an etc. it gives us a sense of stability and foundation. As humans we have created a hole within ourselves and learned to fill it with superficial objects that make us feel whole. We have placed our trust and information in these non responsive robots. And so we have lacked the attentiveness to realize the effects that have fallen over us due to the distraction and addiction of technology.
Major Corporations have used our dedication to technology as an outlet of profit. We are being sold materialistic objects that will, "bring us joy". When looking at the bigger picture we have become more dependent on machines rather than our own abilities. It seems as if we have become more connected to our phones or gadgets rather than each other. If we continue down this path what will become of us? Will we be like the people on WALL-E? Fat, indolent, and accustomed to a screen over our face? Or will we waver from that path and head towards a different direction?
Questions:
Do you think the reason why we are so addicted to technology is because of our Capitalistic Government? Why or why not?
As the next up rising generation of you adults do you think we could put a stop to the usage of technology?
I definitely agree that our capitalistic government has played a role in getting all of us addicted to technology; however, this doesn't mean that we should put an end to technology as a whole. I disagree that the internet has done more harm than good. The internet has brought with it an age of innovation and cooperation, and, as you mentioned, it has essentially put all of the answers at our fingertips which can hardly be counted as a drawback.
ReplyDeleteTo stop the usage of technology would be to destroy the age of innovation that has come to define our generation. Perhaps a better route would be for individuals to be a little more careful with what they do with their personal information.
