High school

High school is draining. From homework every night to practice everyday its hard to balance your time. The demand for a college education is greater than ever and it puts a big stress on the high school student. Colleges expect you to be almost perfect and seeing as that's impossible to achieve, aiming for that goal is stressful. It doesn't help that high school has so many problems. From how classes are taught to what the system expects it seems as if high school is setup against the students.

One problem is the homework. I understand that homework is used as a supplement to the class but some nights it just seems like a punishment. I don't understand why we are required to do busy work in so many classes. If the real purpose of homework is better understand the subject whats the point in giving assignments that are needlessly time consuming. It seems hypocritical how teacher supposedly want you to succeed but demand you to spend countless hours doing useless worksheets. This seems like it just wastes time and adds unnecessary stress to students. If teachers really cared about their students they'd worry more about what they teach in class then assignments they assign.

Another issue with high school is graduation requirements. Forcing students to take certain classes seems pointless. I thought the point of high school was to prepare you for college and eventually the real world? If thats the case why does a prospective engineer have to take an art class? To me this seems completely pointless and doesn't benefit the student whatsoever. I understand that a student needs a well balanced knowledge in all subjects to succeed. This is why im ok with having to take the core classes ever year, but being forced to take electives seems stupid. Forcing me to take art which will never help me should not be a requirement.

High school should help students. I dont understand why they make it as hard as possible on us. For the class of 31 I hope they get a less demanding high school experience. As of now high school is hell with all the work we are given and then being told that just school isnt enough. I hope in the future teachers are able to understand that its not easy being a high school student. I hope high school can aim to help us and not stress us out.
