The American education system is one of the best in the world, but it is not near perfect and has plenty of room for development. We base how smart are students are by making them compete against others when we should be focusing on how to make our education structure flawless and caring for the developing mind of a student. From the very first day of a students new journey to school they are taught to be competitive you must be better than your classmates. This can lead kids to believe they are not smart because they do not score higher than someone else. Kids are focused on how they are able to get an A in the class instead of trying their best to comprehend the subject. If we learn to award kids for how much effort they exert into something, the better outcome. Benjamin Franklin once said "The harder I work, the luckier I get", this is by no accident--hard work pays off.--his accomplishments are considered some of the most important in history.
This is the mindset we need to implement in our students, learning is easy once you focus and try your hardest to comprehend the subject. In the video "How to Help Every Child Fulfill Their Potential" by The RSA Youtube channel it talks about different mindsets that will help kids learn that anything they put their mind to is possible. The did a study where one group of students were appreciated for how smart they are while another group was appreciated for how much effort they put into doing well. The group that was appreciated for their effort did substantially better than those who were told they were very smart. Just by changing their mindset, the scores were altered. This proves that by changing the way our students think into a positive, modern way we can improve the scoring average for them.
Teachers should handle students more individually in order to help to the needs of each students. This will allow for unique minds can be assisted and new methods techniques will be made hopefully in accommodation of those who need it. We see now that other countries have implemented a more relaxed, personal relationships within schools and it has proved to surpass the American school system. This change in the curriculum proves it is possible for schools to adapt the concept and let it succeed. After almost a century, the school system still has not had many updates and reforms; if we want our future to be improved then we must improve the minds of the future. Education is the key to solving all issues, without knowledge our life would be hopeless.
