Education

There are many problems with the educational system. One flaw is that schools do not have enough funding. As a result, the students and teachers suffer. The teachers do not have adequate tools to teach with and so the students are not able to learn. Sometime teachers are not properly equipped to teach because of the school itself. However, the teachers do not necessarily care because they are not the ones who need to learn. All the consequences of these issues fall onto the students. The students are the reason schools exist and if they can't learn, then what's the point of having schools?

Also, some people are not as intelligent as others in certain subjects. Someone could strive to become an engineer but he may never be able to reach his goal because he failed his foreign language requirements and so he could not graduate. This keeps people from being successful because they are not smart in every subject in school. What people need to know is that not everyone has the same capabilities. I know that there are some things that everyone needs to know in every field, but you don't need to learn advanced math if you are going to be a historian. Not everyone knows what they want to be, but they may have some idea by the time they get in high school. Schools try to force so much information into people's heads, but they can only hold so much. If this were to change, then there may be a higher graduation rate.

  1. I can agree that improvements to the educational system can become beneficial for borne teachers and students. We go to school to receive an education; however, most education may be information we learn and never apply in our lives. The formulas we memorize in Intergrated Math will be long forgotten by the end of school year if you’re not very interested in the subject itself.

Funding for schools is important as education can be free but teaching education is not cheap. Textbooks are outdated and old that most of the material we are learning now from teachers are not up to current date. Teachers do their job is helping and teaching their students learn about the subject they major in, but most students do not pick up the material like others.

Everyone is taught the same material yet the way each student comprehends it is different. Expectations for students to understand what they are being taught are set high and may cause students to feel not as smart as their peers. This can change if we could tinker and change our requirements in the education system.

I believe it is about trial and error. We can implement different methods and standards into the system to see how students thrive and perform and decide what material should truly be required in not only high school but also middle and elementary as well. Change is never easy, but gradual change can work in the best of ways for students and for teachers as well.

  2. This is something that is so common. It's sad that this isn't addressed as often as i believe it should be but I'm glad you decided to blog about this issue.

Because of this, so many students feel pressured and confused so they undermine themselves, which leads to the hating of school and all of those typically feelings kids our age feel about education. I mean, why AP Psychology if you're planning on being a choir teacher. I just do not see the point.

If schools worked more on what the individual student wants to do according to what fits their future the best, graduation rates could increase, like you said.

  3. I think you make a perfect point. High school requirements do exactly the opposite of what they're supposed to do. By forcing people to take classes they're not interested in makes no sense. Essentially these requirements ruin people chances of achieving they're dream and I think that its sad.

If high school really wants to help it should play off the strengths of the student and not the weaknesses. If we really want kids to succeed we need to help them achieve their goal not make it a struggle.
