Changes in our education

After watching the videos, I realized that many precautions should be taken to ensure the quality of future education. I had always believed that changes were going to have to happen to maintain a beneficial education system, but now I realize how close it’s getting to that time.

I believe that kids shouldn’t be graded so heavily on the final piece of their work. I think there should be more emphasis on the process and the effort of the students rather than it being mainly completion and quality. Obviously the quality of their work and the fact that they complete it is crucial, but I don’t think effort is given enough attention. There are many people who have very good work and always complete it on time but when you ask them how long it too them they’re like yeah I did it this morning while someone else went through all the steps and doesn’t get any recognition.

I also think that there should be limits on the involvement of the internet with the school curriculum. Yes technology is an advantage for education, but it’s also important to keep elements of physically writing and seeing things on paper in schools because even though it’s the same content, paper and screen are two different things. This one may be more of a personal preference type of thing but I still stand by it. Technology also makes it easier for students to cheat and find an easy way out of doing work.

However, I do think that it’s necessary to teach how to use and the importance of technology since it is such a prominent part of our society. For it to be useful, we have to know how to work it at least at a base level.

  1. I agree with the idea that we aren’t graded heavily on effort since effort is a big part of completion. I believe teachers don’t grade that way because they don’t kno what effort is being used outside of the classroom and anyone can put in half the effort and math get credit. Our school system is changing some parts, such as math, but do you believe it is a crucial decision for the youth since we are the future

  2. I think you make a good point but I cant say I agree. As a teacher you assign work to help your students get a better understanding of the material. For instance when a teacher gives you a worksheet to fill out they give it out so you go home and look for the answers. This would in turn give the student a better understanding of what they are trying to learn. Now if the student turns in a bad worksheet with answers that barely answer the question the purpose of the worksheet is void. The student took out all of the benefits of the assignment and turned it into busy work. This is why teachers punish this type of behavior. Even if they did try their best and the work was bad that is still no excuse. If a surgeon tried his best but lost fifty percent of his patients nobody would "well at least he tried". This surgeon would face serious reprimands and would probably lose his ability to perform operations. We shouldn't give out good grades to failures just be they tried.

  3. While I do understand the importance of sticking to traditional pen and paper, I respectfully disagree with limiting technology in school. The integration of technology is an inevitability that we should embrace. The ability of the internet to provide information in milliseconds allows for less time to be wasted and more time for productivity. With the appropriate amount of boundaries, technology can prove itself to be effective as a benefactor rather than inefficient as a distractor. Moreover, the disadvantages of technology such as the easiness of cheating can be prevented through the use of private servers and proper monitoring. In fact, technology can even be utilized to assess effort as seen in the Draft Playback option on Ms. Fletcher's computer. Technology is the future!

  4. I agree with the fact that students shouldn’t be graded so heavily on the final piece of their work. Most likely, they are going to procrastinate and cram everything last minute. When you mentioned about the use of technology in schools, I realized that schools should not limit technology in schools. Integrating technology into the classroom is an effective way to connect with students of all learning styles and gives students the opportunity to enhance the interaction with their classmates and instructors by encouraging collaboration. With technology evolving at this moment, it can keep students engaged and have access to incredible amounts of new opportunities, allowing students to be more creative. Technology will promote engaging learning and helps prepare students to become active participants in a global society.
