Changes for School

Watching these videos helped me understand and formulate my true opinion of school. In our AP English class, we understand that it is the only way to "rank up." Therefore, we work hard, hoping for a better future. However, most students at our school are not in any challenging classes. Why is this?

This is not just for high school. This stems from the beginning, kindergarten. Personally, my kindergarten teacher motivated us to work hard, so we could go to Harvard. She wanted all of us to promise her we would get into that school. Looking back on it now, it seems unrealistic, but her motivation pushed me to do better in school in general. Having all teachers, nationwide, set those goals for their kindergarten students, will not only improve their entire school career, but improve their personal standards for themselves.

One of the most common complaints of schooling is that it is too long. Most country's have less schooling than us, yet they are performing better. This point of view does not just come from a high school student that does not want to go to school, it comes from a logical point of view. If it is statistically proven by how other countries perform compared to us, it should be made a change. 

Furthermore, school is a set career for a child into their early adulthood to prepare them for life, but we don't learn much important life lessons until the last few years of high school. This could be simply because of the mental age of the child however, life lessons should be implemented throughout the average school day. On a similar note, classes that pertain to specific jobs and skills we hope for as a career should be required and implemented into our daily schedule. Yes, there are classes that offer just that, but because of some students' strive for academic success, those classes are pushed aside as not worthy of their time. If we had them required, we would be learning useful information that would definitely help us outside of high school. 

Education is an advantage because it is one of the only things that can dramatically change lives. The biggest issue with our school system is that most students don't take full advantage of it. If we lived in a world where all students strived to be successful, what would it look like?
